Mazzone has been an active member of the Florida Tech athletic program as the school's cross country head coach and assistant athletic director since 1985.

Coach Mazzone was always interested in athletics and had a deep desire to coach. He became the Assistant Athletic Director here at Florida Tech soon after moving to Florida. He was offered the head coaching job for men's and women's cross country seven years later in 1992. The rest is history!

In 2000, his men's program had their best finish during Mazzone's tenure. The men's team finished second in the Sunshine State Conference and 12th overall in the NCAA Division II Regionals.
