Fidgi Haig

Fidgi Haig
Co-Director

Florida Tech entered the 2011 season ranked No. 5 in Division II according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Guided by Fidgi Haig, the women’s squad won its first SSC Regular-Season Championship, its first NCAA Division II South Region title and a spot among the nation’s elite in the Final Four, all in 2010. Haig came to Florida Tech in 2005 after ending his stint as the women’s head coach at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Fla., where his team was ranked #1 in the nation twice, in 2002 and 2004.

His Lady Scorpions were one of the most dominant teams in the state in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Under Haig, Satellite High School won seven conference championships, five district championships and had four trips to the state championship game, winning two of them in 2002 and 2003. After winning back-to-back state championships, he left Satellite in 2005 with an astonishing career record of 231-18-8 (.927 winning percentage). That same year, he was named The Orlando Sentinel Girls Soccer Coach of the Year, Florida Today Girls Soccer Coach of the Year and the Florida Youth Soccer Association’s (FYSA) Girls Coach of the Year. He also was named Space Coast Coach of the Year four times and the 2004 Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year.

He won eight state club level girls championships in Indialantic and Space Coast ages 15–19. Currently, he ranks as the fourth all-time winningest girls high school coach in the nation.

Dustin Smith is entering his second year as an assistant coach with the Florida Tech women’s soccer team. He graduated in 1994 from Melbourne High School where he captained the 1994 state champion Bulldogs to a 21-1-2 record his senior year.

He then continued his playing career in Charleston, S.C., from 1994–98 as a four-year starter at Charleston Southern University where he also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. While playing for the Buccaneers, he captained the 1997 squad to a 16-5-1 record and earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth against the No. 2 nationally ranked South Carolina Gamecocks.

Smith was voted to the Big South All-Conference Team in 1996 and 1997. Following his collegiate career, he played two seasons with the USL’s Myrtle Beach Sea Dawgs from 1998–99. He also served as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University from 1998–2000 under the tutelage of his former coach Shaun Docking.
