Lenoir-Rhyne Upends Florida Tech, 17-9
HICKORY, N.C. (Men’s Lacrosse) – Lenoir-Rhyne held the Florida Tech offense to two goals over a 30-minute span in its 17-9 win Friday night at the Moretz Sports Complex. The Bears improve to 3-10 overall and 1-6 in the Deep South Conference, while the Panthers fall to 2-10, 0-7 DSC.
Ahead 5-3 after the first period, Lenoir-Rhyne outscored its counterpart 9-2 over the next two periods to take a commanding 14-5 lead. With only 15 minutes to play, the nine-goal deficit proved to be too much.
Mike Marshner, Ryan Bailey and Christian Isola scored two goals each for FIT. Isola also had three assists to finish with five points. Bailey led the team with eight ground balls.
Lenoir-Rhyne held a slight edge in shots, 37-36, and ground balls, 43-41, however, it had 37 clearance attempts to FIT’s 22. The Bears also forced 27 Panther turnovers to their 19.
FIT will remain in North Carolina to play Belmont Abbey Sunday at 3 p.m.
