The 2011 season saw the Panthers take another positive step, finishing second in the SSC standings with a conference record of 5-2-1 and an overall mark of 9-6-1. Following the season, Chan earned his first SSC Coach of the Year honor. The Malaysia native played midfield for the Panthers in 1988, when FIT captured the first of its two NCAA Division II National Championships. Two seasons later, he helped guide the team to a NCAA Final Four appearance. In his four-year career, FIT was crowned SSC Champions three times from 1988-90. Chan received numerous individual awards, including first team all-conference (1988-90), first team all-state (1989-90), all-South Region (1990) and First Team All-American (1990). After the 1988 championship run, he was selected NCAA Division II National Tournament Offensive MVP. He currently ranks fifth in assists (40) and eighth in points (78) in the Panthers’ record book. He remains one of only a few men's soccer players to start every game of his collegiate career. He went on to play in the United States International Soccer League (USISL), USL A-League, USL-Pro League and USL-PDL for the Orlando Lions, Cocoa Expos, Carolina Dynamo and Orlando Nighthawks. Prior to being named to his current position, he was the head coach at Melbourne Central Catholic for eight seasons. His teams won two state championships in 1998 and 2003, eight consecutive district championships, five regional championships and earned five state final four appearances. At the end of the 2003 season, Melbourne Central Catholic was ranked No. 1 in the country by StudentSports.com. Chan graduated with honors from Florida Tech in 1991 and completed an MBA at Florida Tech in 1993. He is a member of the SSC, Florida Tech and Melbourne Central Catholic Hall of Fames. |
