SAVANNAH, Ga. (Softball) – Florida Tech (1-3) earned its first win of the season against a top 25 opponent Saturday, defeating No. 21 Armstrong Atlantic 2-1 in game two of the doubleheader at Armstrong Atlantic’s Softball Field. The Pirates, however, won their season opener in game one, 3-1.
Erica Tollett smashed the eventual game-winning hit in the fifth inning. She roped a double down the left-field line to score Kara Dickinson from second base. Brianna Barth (1-1) shut down Armstrong Atlantic in the final two innings for her second complete game of the season. In the effort, she gave up one run on three hits and one walk, while striking out three. Tollett and Dickinson led FIT with two hits apiece as the Panthers outhit their counterparts 8-3 in the win. “We played well in both games,” head coach Val Silvestrini said. “We had outstanding pitching performances from Taylor (Smith) and Bri. In the second game, we executed really well with runners on base and we played as a team. We’re looking forward to playing Flagler tomorrow.” The Panthers will now travel to St. Augustine for a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Flagler on Sunday.
