“The team executed very well today,” head coach Val Silvestrini said. “We capitalized on our chances at the plate and played solid defense. We are looking forward to more good softball tomorrow.”
For the fifth time in five games, the opposition scored the first run as Brittany Mitchell singled up the middle to score Sabrina Lolo in the first inning.
FIT responded with three runs in the bottom half with Kara Dickinson, Taylor Peterson and Ashley Montion each bringing in a run.
The game remained 3-1 until Eckerd cut its deficit to one in the top of the third on a base hit by Kaycie Duncan.
The Panthers once again answered in the bottom of the frame as they tacked on four runs, all came with two outs. With the bases full, Erica Tollett singled in Dickinson. Amanda Bueno then worked the count to 3-2 before ripping a bases clearing double to the left-center field gap to score Tollett, Montion and Lindsy Dugan.
FIT padded its five-run lead with three more in the fourth inning.
