Baseball Hosts Fire and Sailfish at Seminick-Hall Field
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Baseball)— After being away from home the past couple of weeks, the No. 8 Florida Tech Panthers return to Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field this week for four games. The Panthers will face Southeastern Wednesday night, and will host a weekend series with Palm Beach Atlantic Friday and Saturday.
The Panthers (8-1) went 4-1 on the recent road swing. After falling to Limestone 6-5 in 10 innings, the Panthers rebounded by winning the next four against Limestone, Flagler, and two against Southeastern. Weather brought changes to the Panthers schedule last week when their scheduled series with Erskine was scrapped due to Winter Storm Pax. The Panthers were able to add a doubleheader with Southeastern in Lakeland, and won both games 5-1 and 2-1 in extra innings.
Juniors Scotty Ward and Ashton Fronsoe have led the pitching staff for the Panthers so far. Ward is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA. Ward has given up just two earned runs in 20 innings pitched. Fronsoe is 1-0 to go along with two saves and a 0.60 ERA. He has given up just one earned run, walked only one batter and struck out 13 in 15 innings of work.
Freshman Grant McKown leads the Panthers at the plate with a .379 batting average. Senior Andrew Bartlett leads the club with seven RBIs and is currently on a six-game hitting streak.
The Fire (6-4) are an NAIA Division I squad. Southeastern is looking for a measure of revenge against Florida Tech after the Panthers took two last weekend at Broer Stadium.
Palm Beach Atlantic (4-3-1) is looking to pick up more big wins against ranked opponents. The Sailfish began the 2014 season by taking two-out-of-three games from Delta State. The three game series begins Friday night at 6 p.m. ET, and will culminate in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. The Panthers and Sailfish will play a fourth game in West Palm Beach on March 11.
First pitch against the Fire is set for 6 p.m. ET Wednesday night. If you cannot make it out to Seminick-Hall Field every game this week will have live stats and audio available at FloridaTechSports.com. Wednesday’s broadcast begins at 5:45 p.m. ET.
