Austin Allen Named to Tino Martinez Award Watch List
OMAHA, NEB. (Baseball)— Florida Tech Panthers’ sophomore Austin Allen was named to Tino Martinez Award Watch List on Thursday. The Tino Martinez Award presented by Jaeger Sports is given out each season to the most outstanding player in NCAA Division II. The initial list of 125 athletes included 15 from the Sunshine State Conference. Allen is looking to become the first player from the SSC to win the award.
Allen, a native of Kirkland, Mo., is off to a great start this season for the Panthers. Allen is hitting with a .405 average with 15 hits in 37 at-bats. Four of Allen’s hits have been doubles, and he has totaled seven RBI’s with seven runs scored. He has a .500 on-base percentage, and a slugging percentage of .514. Wednesday night against Southeastern Allen was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Semifinalists for the Tino Martinez Award are scheduled to be announced on May 12th before the list gets paired down to the finalists on May 26th. The 2014 Tino Martinez Award is scheduled to be handed out on June 2nd.
