Men's Tennis Hosts Sailfish on Friday
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. (Men’s Tennis) – No. 43 Florida Tech (0-2) looks to earn its first victory of the spring campaign on Friday, Feb. 21 at Desoto Park when it hosts Palm Beach Atlantic University (1-3) at 2 p.m.
FIT has struggled early in the spring, falling to No. 1 and defending NCAA Division II National Champion Barry University (4-0), 8-1 and Flagler College (2-4), 7-2. Against the Buccaneers, Patrick Hernandez earned a tiebreaking victory in singles No. 1 against No. 37 Leo Vivas, his first match at No. 1. Last weekend, Matic Leskovar and Beau Fieldsend picked up their first victory of the spring in doubles No. 2 and Leskovar dominated in his singles match but the Panthers could not overcome a slow start and fell to the Saints, 7-2. Fieldsend and Leskovar are 4-2 in doubles play this season and Leskovar is 4-3 in singles action, the only Panther with four wins.
The men enter Friday’s match ranked No. 43 nationally and tied for 10th in the South Region in the latest poll which was released on Feb. 19.
PBA’s win came on Feb. 2 against Ave Maria University, 8-1. The Sailfish fell to nationally-ranked Rollins College, 7-2, Lynn University, 9-0 and Flagler, 7-2. Mark Heimberger is 2-2 in singles No. 3 and Nicolas Uryson has earned two flight No. 1 victories. Heimberger and Uryson have posted a 2-2 mark in doubles play and Asti Adams and Romain Nowaczyk have recorded a 1-2 record in doubles No. 2.
