MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Women’s Soccer) – Junior transfer Casey Lademann followed up her strong Panther debut on Thursday by scoring two goals in Florida Tech’s 2-1 win over St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Soccer Field. The Crimson and Gray, who entered the contest ranked No. 21 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, extended their record to 2-0, while the Bobcats fell to 0-1.
Throughout the 90-minute match, the Panthers kept goalkeeper Victoria Shahbaz busy. In all, they fired 23 shots and all but six were on net. Leading the team with six shots was freshman Chelsea Belfer.
Tech got on the board first as Lademann converted a penalty kick at the 9:44 mark. With the first half ticking down, the junior transfer struck once more thanks to a pass by Belfer.
St. Thomas’s Monica Lozano cut the Panthers’ lead to one in the second half, but that proved to be the only goal the Bobcats would score on the day.
After playing two games in three days, the Crimson and Gray will have six days off before they begin the Georgia College & State Tournament Friday, Sept. 10, versus Harding at 5:30 p.m. They will finish the tournament by playing its host Sunday, Sept. 12, at 2:30 p.m.
