Academic Enhancement Program

The Academic Enhancement Program is designed for all freshmen, transfers (GPA 2.75 or below) and returning student-athletes with a cumulative GPA below a 2.5. Senior student-athletes with a GPA below a 2.5 will attend at the discretion of their coach and the Director of Student-Athlete Development.

Freshman student-athletes who received a GPA above 2.5 in their first semester will not be required to attend study table the following semester. The same rule will be applied for transfer students.

The Program

  • All student-athletes in the Academic Enhancement Program will be required to fulfill four hours of study table per week, unless otherwise notified. The weeks will run from Monday to Sunday. No hours will be available on Saturday. If there is a short week, then student-athletes will be told how many hours are required. Usually two hours will be required for short weeks.
    • Study table will be held in the Evans Library on the third floor, Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
      • Student-athletes will need to fill out a sign-in sheet, specifying the proper arrival and departure times. This sheet must also have the monitor’s signature in order to receive credit.
    • Student-athletes will be permitted to use the Academic Support Center, located next to the library in Building 428A, to earn hours.
      • Student-athletes will need to fill out a sign-in sheet and have the monitor sign the document in order to receive credit.
      • Student-athletes will receive credit for working with a tutor, study groups, or studying by themselves in the center.
  • If a student-athlete falls behind in hours, then his/her status will go to “yellow.”
    • For example, a student-athlete goes to study table for only three hours for the week. He/she is deficient one hour so that individual will go to “yellow” status. This means that the student-athlete will have one week to make up this hour.
    • For instance, the student-athlete will need to do five hours the following week to make it up. If the student-athlete fails to make up the hour, then he/she will go to “red” status. Once a student-athlete gets to “red” status, he/she is not permitted to condition, practice, or compete with the team until the individual is caught up on hours.
  • Student-athletes are permitted to “bank” study table hours up to 10 hours. Banked hours are defined as hours accumulated above and beyond the required hours on any given week. If the student-athlete exceeds the 10-hour mark, he/she will not be given credit for those hours.
  • Coaches will be given a status report for their student-athletes on a weekly basis. It is the responsibility of the coach to follow up with athletes that may be in the “yellow” status. It is also the responsibility of the coach to enforce the “no study, no play” policy if their student-athlete is in the “red” status.
