SAINT LEO, Fla. (Women’s Basketball) – The Sunshine State Conference’s top-ranked scoring offense was on full display Saturday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Activities Center as Florida Tech (14-7, 5-6 SSC) used solid inside play and efficient perimeter shooting to trounce Saint Leo (6-14, 0-10 SSC) 87-46.
The Panthers shot 49.3 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from behind the arc, while scoring 34 points inside the paint. For the second consecutive game, they never trailed and were tied only at the 18:57 mark of the first half when the score read 3-3. “We always took the best shot possible,” head coach John Reynolds said. “We did an excellent job executing our offense, we were unselfish and patient the whole game, and it showed on the scoreboard.” Four Panthers scored in double digits. Freshman Kayk Wilson shot 4-for-8 from long distance and 7-for-14 from the field to lead the team in scoring with a season-high 19 points. This week’s SSC Player of the Week Briauna Hagins picked up her 11th double-double of the season with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance. Jasmire Brown scored 13 points to go along with eight rebounds. Ashton McClairen chipped in with 12 points, all coming in the second half. “We got good minutes from everybody,” Reynolds added. “We gave equal opportunities to all our players and everyone came through. Our bench outscored their bench 35-15. That says a lot about the balance our team has on offense.” FIT will play its final three home games of the regular season starting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against Nova Southeastern at the Clemente Center. It will then host its breast cancer awareness game, Play 4Kay, in exactly one week from today against Lynn. The Panthers will conclude the home portion of their slate Wednesday, Feb. 15, versus Barry. Live video, audio and stats will be available for all three home games at FloridaTechSports.com/live. |
