MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Tennis) – No. 18 Florida Tech opened its home schedule Saturday with a 7-2 win over No. 13 Flagler at the Fee Avenue Tennis Courts.
“We were very aggressive in doubles and it continued through singles,” FIT head coach Bill Macom said. “Today, I saw a lot of things happen that we’ve been working on in practice. That type of mentality can carry us a long way.” Katarina Huba and Kristina Huba, the seventh-ranked doubles team in Division II, played their first competitive match of the spring and won 8-0 against Rachel Gould and Barbora Sebkova. At No. 3 doubles, Monica Price and Katie Close defeated Esther Santiago and Krista Ingrilli, 8-5. The Panthers continued their sound play in singles, winning five of the six matches. Abbey Keister captured her first win of the season against Gould, 7-5, 6-3. Abigail Greif followed the lead of her teammates and kept Flagler reeling with a win over Jennifer Saviano, 6-1, 6-2. FIT will play at Sunshine State Conference member Tampa next Saturday, Feb. 11, at 1 p.m. |
